Cross-Cultural Media Studies (CCMS) is an international peer‑reviewed, gold open access journal dedicated to advancing the understanding of media and communication across cultural boundaries. We publish original research, critical reviews, and case studies that explore the complex interplay between media, culture, and society in an increasingly globalized and digitally connected world.

Core Areas of Interest

Cross-Cultural Communication

Intercultural dialogue, media representation of cultural identities, transnational media flows, and comparative communication studies.

Media & Globalization

Global media industries, cultural imperialism, localization and glocalization, digital media and global audiences.

Digital Media & Society

Social media cultures, platform governance, digital inequality, algorithmic culture, and online communities across borders.

Cultural Representation & Identity

Media and cultural identity, race, ethnicity, gender in global media, postcolonial and decolonial media studies.

Comparative Media Studies

Cross-national media systems, comparative journalism, media policy, political communication across cultures.

New Media & Audience Studies

Audience reception, user-generated content, participatory culture, media effects, and fandom across cultural contexts.

Interdisciplinary Mission

CCMS actively encourages contributions that bridge multiple domains. We are particularly interested in work that:

  • Examines media and communication through cross-cultural and comparative lenses
  • Integrates cultural theory with empirical media research
  • Explores the impact of digital platforms on cultural exchange and identity
  • Addresses ethical, social, and political dimensions of global media
  • Applies interdisciplinary methodologies to media and cultural studies
We welcome both conceptual and empirical studies, and we are open to innovative formats that challenge traditional disciplinary boundaries in media and cultural research.
